About Beaverkill

We founded the Beaverkill Rod Company on two very simple ideas: provide a product that we would want to use for a price that we would want to pay. The rod we would choose was always a $600 rod. . . great action, great components and great finishing. Price was always a challenge. Our goal was to figure a way to make and sell a rod that is truly a $600 value for $400.

Here is how we can do it. We sell or fly rods on the Internet and through Guides and Lodges. Retail fly shops are expensive to run and, therefore, they have to mark up fly rods a good bit. Now don't get us wrong, we love fly shops and spend a boatload in them each year. They provide great information and are a super source of flies, leaders and great accessories. We simply could not meet our goals by selling the Beaverkill Rod through them. You can only get our rods direct on the Internet and through our Guide and Lodge network (see the Guide and Lodge Locator).

T.Gordon

Why the name "Beaverkill Rod". The name reflects what we are trying to do. Something new.

In the 1880's Theodore Gordon cast the first dry fly in the US on the Beaverkill about 4 miles north of Lew Beach, N.Y... or so the story goes. The fact is Gordon did introduce dry fly fishing to the US and he fished the Beaverkill with great success. The Beaverkill is, of course, one of the most famous trout streams in the world. For us the name combines tradition, innovation, and value.

Our Pledge to you is simple. . . Deliver a fly rod that will perform at the highest level both in casting and fishing, made of the best components and finished to the highest standard. Each of our fly rods and blanks are made here in the US. Please send us your comments, suggestions and questions to flyrod@bkrod.com
